The countryside

Due to the extremely wide range of scenery in the area, what follows is merely a taster.

Naturally there are a considerable number of gorges such as this at Gouleyrous. The Gorges de Galamus which have the Hermitage of St Antoine built into the cliff-face. These are a short drive from St Paul de Fenouillet.

In winter ski-ing is on offer at the many resorts including Capcir, Espace Cambre d'Aze, Font-Romeu and Les Angeles among many others. Many of which are equally pretty (and busy) in the summer.

The rock formations of Les Orgues near the lovely town of Ille-sur-Tet. There is a charge if you want to see them up close but you can get an excellent view of them from the road that runs above the town. In summer the vines flourish almost everywhere in the region. The many fruit farms are best seen in the spring when the apple and pear trees are in flower.
