The Hermitage of St Antoine is an
extremely popular location with a number of different activities.
The hermitage itself is built right into the rock face as you can see
with a small church built into a large cave along with several
grottoes with some quite impressive carvings. There’s no entry
charge.

If you are heading
towards Nar bonne (see below), the Abbeys of Lagrasse
and
Fontfroide are worth a detour. Lagrasse is a lovely medieval
town worthy of a visit in its own right. It's best to arrive early
at Fontfroide to avoid the crowds (you can only see inside the abbey
during the one hour guided tour). |

If you don't mind a steep climb, the hilltop
Abbey St Martin is worth seeing. Much more accessible is St
Michel de Cuxa which is a little over-restored. |

Serrabone, perched on a hilltop, is on one of the compostella walking routes. It's best to visit
it
on a calm day because it gets very, very windy as you
approach the hilltop. Serrabone has a beautiful
botanical garden. |
